The Studios located on East Expressway in Weslaco as well as the transmitter in Santa Maria, Texas. The station founded in 1954 and the first show aired 64 years ago on 10 April 1954. The call signs meaning of network is “Rio Grande Valley”.

History
In 1954, it started broadcasting with NBC and sharing ABC programming with KGBT-TV. Manship Family purchased the station in 1964 and began programming with ABC as primary affiliation in 1976. It added secondary affiliation with UPN in 1995, and following year this programming shifted to KVEO. The station extended its newscast by 30 minutes on 24 August 2009. It started transmission in HD on 9 September 2009 and in same year rebranded to Channel 5 News. The channel expanded the duration of Channel 5 News this morning by a half hour in September 2010. It redesigned its logo and website in October 2012. It made the contract with Tribune Broadcasting in January 2018 and moved its 10:30 pm newscasts in which both English and Spanish content included known as Somos El Valle.

It is a reality competition, features a series of families or groups that elaborate Christmas light display. The Displays are judged on three bases: use of lights, the overall design and Christmas Spirit.
