KAUZ-TV is CBS affiliated television station and licensed to Wichita Falls, Texas. American Spirit Media is the owner of the station. The headquarters and transmitter are located near Seymour Highway and West Wenonah Boulevard in western Wichita Falls. The station was founded in 1953 and the first show aired 65 years ago on 1 March 1953.

History

On 18 July 1952, Rowley Brown Broadcasting filed for a license for channel 6. FCC approved a license on 6 January 1953 with call letters KWFT-TV. On 1 March 1953, the first show aired on the station and it became first television channel in Wichita Falls Lawton market. On 9 December 1955 Rowley Brown sold the station to KSYD-TV Inc. The sale was approved on 11 January 1956 and call letters changed to KSYD-TV. New York Broadcasting acquired the station from Grayson on 1 December 1962 and that sale completed on 13 March 1963. On 31 July, the call signs changed into KAUZ-TV. Mid New York Broadcasting company sold the station to Bass Brothers Telecasters. Further, it sells out to Adams Communication on 22 July 1983 for $10.925 million. In late 1991, Adams sold the station with other seven channels to Br Broadcasting for $257 million. The ownership of station moved to Benedek Broadcasting for $270 million. It broadcasted CBS programming even late night Sunday shows.

On 2  April 2002, Benedek announced to sell out its 22 stations to Gray Communications for $500 million. But, KAUZ-TV was not included in it. In June 2002, Chelsey Broadcasting showed an intention to purchase the station and that sale completed on 21 October 2002. After one year in September 2003, Hoak Media took ownership of the station for $ 8.2 million. On 10 August 2015, Raycom Media decided to purchase the eight stations of Drewry communications for $160 million. According to the deal, American Spirit Media purchased the license from Hoak Media. Now, The Gray Television announced to merge the broadcasting with Raycom on 25 June 2018 and that sale completed on 20 December along with its sister station  KSWO-TV.
