WVBT launched on March 22, 1993 is a Fox affiliate broadcasting from Portsmouth to Virginia Beach and Hampton road areas of Norfolk, Hampton, Newport News and northeastern North Carolina. Owned by Nexstar Media Group, it shares duopoly with Portsmouth NBC affiliate WAVY. The studios of the channel are located on Wavy Street in downtown Portsmouth with transmitter located in Driver neighborhood of Suffolk, Virginia. WVBT’s also operates WNLO-CD and WPMC-CD in Norfolk om channel 36 and channel 54 respectively.

History
WVBT was launched on March 22, 1993 as an HNS: Home Shopping Network station before becoming a charter affiliate of The WB on Jan 11, 1995. A bit later the local owners of the channel affiliated with LIN TV. Following the agreement WAVY owned by LIN TV took over the operations of the service. In May 1996, a new transmitter of the channel was unveiled to fill the coverage ideal and match with other competitors in Hampton as the signal was previously confined to only Virginia Beach and parts of Norfolk. LIN which signed an affiliation agreement with Fox in 1995 and acquired WVBT in 2002. It then switched its affiliation to become The WB affiliate in Aug 1998.
A local weather channel: WAVY Weather Station was also run by the channel until Jan 2007; it aired on the second digital sub-channel of WVBT. It became a Media General property when LIN merged with General on Dec 19, 2014. Under Media General it along with WAVY became the sister of WRIC-TV in Petersburg. Media General was later acquired by Nexstar Media Group; the sale of WVBT to Nexstar completed on Jan 17, 2017. Nexstar then bought the assets of Tribune Media to create new duopoly of WTKR and WGNT. WPMC-CD and WNLO-CD are the translators of the channel.
