History

WNNE was originally a Hartford station and was previously linked with WPTZ as a fulltime satellite to broadcast in Upper Connecticut River Valley of East-Central Vermont and West-Central New Hampshire. It would air the same schedule as its parent WPTZ. Most of the channel’s operations including Master Control were controlled from Plattsburg. The station would serve the eastern and southern portions of Plattsburg-Burlington markets including Grafton and Sullivan counties in West-Central New Hampshire. In addition to that Greater Boston area and counties in Southern News Hampshire would also receive the signal.

The previous Ch 31 slot was used by WRLH which went on air on July 26, 1966. The Black and white low power station was licensed to Lebanon county and was affiliated with NBC. It went off air on Aug 23, 1968 and the calls were occupied by Sinclair Broadcast Group station affiliated with Fox. The Taft Broadcasting Corporation then acquired the permit for Ch 31 and was launched on Sep 25, 1978 as WNNE after initially being assigned the calls: WMVW. It after the approval of FCC dropped the suffix TV in 1980.

WNNE operated W65AM, a rebroadcaster during its analog period of operations; the repeater went silent on March 19, 2010 following cancellation of its license by Federal Communications Commission. The Ch 31 branding and logo was dropped on Aug 2, 2016 and was replaced with NBC5. Tom Caron and Brett Haber are among the former notable staff which worked as sports presents at the channel. After becoming the CW affiliate under the ownership of Hearst, WNNE is now branded as The Valley CW. You can watch the station online for the entertainment shows including Blackish, Whose Line is it Anyway?, Family Gury, Nancy Drew, Judge Jerry and others.
