History
KERA-TV first signed on air on Sep 14, 1960 as a National Educational Television: NET from the temporary studios located at the Davis Building in downtown Dallas. It would also employ the original transmitter tower used by WFAA between 1960 and 1971 before shifting to Cedar Hill tower owned by KTVT, an independent channel which later became a CBS O&O service, and used it until 2009. KERA then relocated its studios to Harry Hines Boulevard facility in April 1961. It would gain a radio sister: KERA 90.1 FM in 1974. In 1988 KERA began to add more entertainment programs to its lineup as it got sourced from American Public Television and Public Broadcasting Service.
