WTVS owned by Detroit Educational Television Foundation is a PBS member station active in Detroit, Michigan. Launched on Oct 3, 1955, the studios of the channel are located at the Riley Broadcast Center HD Studios in Wixom. Additional studios are set up in Maccabees Building in Midtown Detroit. The transmitter of the channel is installed at 8 Mile and Meyers Road in Oak Park. It partners with Detroit Public Schools for the jazz and classical music radio WRCJ 90.9 FM.

WTVS first went on air on Oct 3, 1955 and introduced color broadcasting in 1968. The old studio facility was located at 9345 Lawton in Detroit alongside WRCJ studios. It later relocated to New Center area in Detroit which are currently used for satellite services. WTVS carried its programming from a transmitter fixed near the intersection of 11 Mile and Inkster Roads in Southfield where the transmitters of WMYD and WKBD were also installed. Today the site only hosts the transmitters of WPXD and WKBD. Affiliated with Ion Television and CW.
WTVS signed a partnership with WKAR on Jan 11, 2016 by which the two PBS member stations would collaborate to carry 24-hours kids television. It became the first Public Broadcasting Service member television to host HD broadcasts on UHF Ch 43 in Oct 2000. On April 16, 2009, the television shut its analog signa and flash cut to digital transmission on Ch 56. It then upgraded its transmitter to 600 kW on Oct 12, 2009. PBS Kids was added to ch 56.2 on Jan 13, 2017 and PBS World was shuffled to 56.4 on Jan 13, 2017.
