History
WUCM-TV went on air on Oct 12, 1964 and was licensed to University Center. The channel 19 was initially linked with NET: National Educational Television until 1970 when the latter was replaced by PBS: Public Broadcasting Service. The broadcast relay station of the WUCM, WUCX was launched in 1986 and it operated from Bad Axe to broadcast in the Michigan’s Thumb area. It started carrying Q-TV branding 1997 and changed the callsign to WDCQ-TV while WUCX was renamed as WDCP-TV.
The analog transmitter of the channel was located on the campus of Delta College near 4-Mile and Delta Road in Bay County. The WUCX call letters are still used by NPR affiliate Delta College radio service WUCX-FM 90.1. The radio is jointly operated by CMU and Delta College. It at present is the 3rd most watched PBS member service in Michigan after WTVS and WGVU based in Detroit and Grand Rapids respectively. Thomas Bennett is the GM of the channel since 2017.
Programming
Apart from airing regular Public Broadcasting Service lineup, the programming aired by the channel includes locally hosted content including Currently Speaking hosted by Andy Rapp, Day by Day, Vanishing Voices of the World War II, Tracks Though Time, Breaking New Ground, The Korean war, Margin of Victory, Sawdust & Shanty Boys, Resorted to Glory and others.
