ABC 7 also known as KABC-TV through it calls is an ABC owned station licensed to the city of Los Angeles, CA. ABC Owned Television Stations, a division of The Walt Disney Company owns the channel. The studios are located on Circle Seven Drive in Glendale, California while transmitter is installed on Mount Wilson. KABC-TV reaches the few Western United States areas through DirecTV where over-the-air signal is unavailable. KRDC and KSPN are the sisters of the KABC-TV.

KABC-TV was launched as KECA-TV on Sep 16, 1949. It was the ABC’s last of five stations to sign on. It was also the last new LA station to premiere between 1949 and 1962; the first two being KWHY-TV and KMEX-TV, both UHF channels. The calls at that time were named after broadcasting veteran Earle C. Anthony.

In May 2014, ABC 7 Los Angeles became the first station in United States to cross 1million likes on Facebook.

The present calls: KABC-TV were incorporated on Feb 1, 1954. The channel on its launch in 1949 was present at ABC Television Center and remained there until Dec 2000 before moving to Feliz Studios to use a new all-digital facility in Glendale. It currently headquarters at Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank. The Circle 7 logo has been in use since 1962 and its bottom was filled with ABC Network logo in 1997. The station in 1984 became the first West Coast television channel to use Stereo audio during Summer Olympics. It became the maiden TV station in California to produce HD newscasts on Feb 4, 2006. The 4 pm broadcast of the newscast was moved outside the studio on Sep 30, 2015 following the bomb threat from a Glendale man who was later nabbed by law enforcement on Oct 14, 2015. The operations of the station were temporarily stopped and employees were evacuated.

 

Programming

ABC 7 currently produces 51 hours and 25 min of local newscasts each week and hosts an hour-long newscast at 4pm on weekend afternoons. KABC-TV broadcasts Lakers’ and Clippers’ games in NBA. It also produces and manages the pre-season wild-card games and other telecasts of Los Angeles Rams and Chargers. It added a 3pm newscast on weekdays to its news operations on May 31, 2016. It on Sep 10, 2018 became the 3rd channel in Los Angles news market to broadcast a three-hour morning newscast.
