History

Officially airing on Feb 7, 1988, KFVE was originally set up to broadcast repeats o small-budget programs like Hawaii Five-O. Available on Channel 5, it later started hosting movies and syndicated content. By 1990 it was borrowing programs originally produced by KMGT: Channel 26 before shifting to religious programming later. As a low-budget broadcaster, it also had to air Japanese dramas in its early years. However, things changed in 1993 when KHNL took over the management of the station under a LMA: Local Marketing Agreement signed between the two. The operations of the two stations were then merged into a single facility of KHNL. As KHNL started to take care of the station, the coverage of Athletics Competition in University of Hawaii was moved to KFVE.

Affiliations with The WB and UPN

KFVE became a charter affiliate of UPN on Jan 16, 1995 and was branded as K-5 UPN Hawaii. On Dec 28, 1998 it entered an agreement with The WB and became the secondary affiliate of the service. Four years later, on Sep 2, 2002 it dropped the partnership with UPN to become a primary WB affiliate.

MyNetwork TV affiliation

Under Raycom Media on March 7, 2006, it was announced that the station is going to become an affiliate of MyNetwork TV. The formal joining with the network was closed on Sep 5, 2006.
