History
KPEJ commenced its operations on June 16, 1986 as an independent service although it would carry select Fox programming at primetime. KPEJ formally became a primary Fox affiliate in 1990 but began carrying UPN as its secondary affiliate in 1998. However, UPN was taken over by KOSA in 2003. KPEJ changed its branding to Fox West Texas in Aug 2007 but became Fox 24 in 2008. It however, retained Fox West Texas branding for special promotions and its web-portal.
Communications Corporation of America on April 24, 2013 revealed the sale its broadcasting arm to Nexstar Broadcasting Group but the company couldn’t buy it because of FCC rules that required a market to have 8 unique owners in the aftermath of a duopoly. Nexstar to find a solution to the issue sold license assets of KPEJ to Mission Broadcasting and instead of having direct ownership over it decided to operate it under a shared services agreement.
Nexstar on June 6, 2014 revealed its plans to sell KPEJ and it two other sisters to Marshall Broadcasting Group for USD 58.5m. the deal consummated on Jan 1, 2015. It completed digital flash cutting on June 12, 2009 and dropped the analog signal.
