First signed on air in 1988 as KVHF, it changed calls to KELI on March 9, 1992. There was a time when the channel was associated with ION Television and its prior versions I and Pax TV but later partnered with The Family Channel. It received must-carry status across state using Hawaiian Telcom and Oceanic Time Warner Cable; the grant was subject to KELI providing good quality signal to cable television headends.
It filled the vacuum for a Spanish service in Hawaiian market in the later part of 2017 by signing an affiliation contract with Telemundo. It started its operations after KHLU-CD closed its services in2016. The first-over-the-air affiliate of a Spanish network already covering the Hawaiian Islands soon became available on the eastern side of Big Island via Cable. The call letters were changed to KSIX-TV in 2018.
