Early History

KUBE-TV first went on air on May 18, 1988 with the callsign: KLTJ under the ownership of Eldred Thomas who also owned KVTT-FM (later KKXT) and Dallas-based KLTJ (now KSTR). Its original studios were located in Pasadena with a tower in Anahuac. At the beginning the channel would air religious programs borrowed from Three Angels Broadcasting Network, Christian Television Network and PTL Satellite Network. The distance from Houston was the main cause of poor rection in norther and western pockets of the city. The calls were changed to KTRW on May 18, 1989 to later became KVVV in 1994 and then KZAH in 2000 after it signed with FamilyNet.

KHMV-CA and KVVV-LP were the broadcast relay stations used by KZAH but went silent in Nov 2007 after the owner Pappas Telecasting incurred financial losses. KVVV went into the hands of a liquidation trust while KHMV was purchased by Uniglobe Central America Network LLC on March 10, 2010. Channel 57 became Azteca America affiliate in 2002 and ended its run with the network on July 1, 2002. KUVM-CA and KYAZ replaced it as the new affiliates of the Spanish language network.

KAZH meanwhile singed with Pappas-owned TuVisión. KAZH and twelve others Pappas’ broadcasting assets filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware on May 10, 2008. New World TV Group became the news owner of the channel following the approval of bankruptcy court. It became the maiden VasalloVision affiliate on Oct 22, 2009 after dropping the defunct TuVisión.

KZAH adopted the general entertainment format on Sep 27, 2010 while also assuming the news call letters KUBE-TV on the same day. NRJ TV stepped in as the new owner of the KUBE on Jan 18, 2013. The sale of KUBE is pending to RNN as of Dec 9, 2019 and is expected to conclude by the first quarter of 2020.

Syndicated programs produced by the channel include Rachel Ray, The King of Queens, Paternity Court, Hot Bench, Bob’s Burgers, Community, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Middle, Cougar Town, The Doctors and more.
