It shares the studio with MyNetwork TV affiliated station KBVO and CW affiliate KNVA that located on West Martin Luther King, Old West Austin. The station founded on 12 February 1965 and the first show aired 53 years ago on the same date. The call letter meaning of network is “TeXAN; also, variant of formerly co-owned KXAS in Dallas”.

History
The Station started broadcasting on 12 February 1965 with call letter KHFI-TV. At that Time, Kingsbury Family was the owner of the network. KHFI-TV should be affiliated with NBC but, some contractual obligations, the station worked as the independent station from 1965 to 1966. After that in 1966, it got affiliation of NBC. Henry Tippie made partner with Kingsbury and FCC gave license in 1973.
The channel’s call letters changed into KTVV in 1973. LIN Broadcasting purchased the station in 1979 and again call sign converted into KXAN-TV on 15 October 1987. In 1996, the station old tower activated which built in 1964. This tower is the tallest and highest structure in Austin. Media general decided to acquire station from LIN on 21 March 2014 and that sale completed on 19 December 2014. After a year, Media Group merged the transmission with Nexstar on 27 January 2016.
