History
WLNY-TV (Channel 55) originated in 1965 when a radio station, WRIV applied for a construction permit. In the 1980s, the local businessman, Michael Pascucci, got the new permit from the Federal Communications Commission. On 28 April 1985, the station went on air as WLIG. So, the ratings reached 200,000 viewers in 1987 and in the same year in October, BQ Cable Company introduced WLIG in Brooklyn and Queens. The call letters WLIG changed into WLNY on 1 September 1996. In 1997, station allowed coverage to cable providers. In 2005, the FCC Changed the call letters into WLNT-DT but after that in 2006 FCC removed DT and replaced with WLNY-TV. CBS Television station announced a flagship network WCBS of WLNY-TV on 21 December 2011. CBS purchased WLNY-TV (Channel 55) for $55 million. Officially, Channel started work under CBS on 29 June 2012. But, Now the channel is serving as Independent television station.
