History

WVFX went on air on Feb 8, 1981 on UHF Ch 46 as a religious independent service under the calls WLYJ: We Love You Jesus. At its onset, the service would broadcast evangelicals and local fund-raising appeals to carry on the operations of the service. It was released to Davis Television in 1988 which turned it into a Fox affiliate. Calls under the new owner were changed to WVFX. Before earning Fox’s affiliation, the broadcasts were only available via WPGH-TV in Pittsburg. It was then acquired by Withers Broadcasting in 2007. The stations were too few (only five) in the market for FCC to allow a duopoly; however, Withers got accommodated when it applied for the failed station wavier. The purchase was approved by Federal Communications Commission and although WVFX shared most of its internal operations with Bridgeport-sister WDTV, it had its original offices located on West Pike Street/SR 20 in Downtown Clarksburg. Due to bad reception, it mostly relies on cable and satellite viewership. On May 13, 2016, Gray announced their plans to buy WDTV and WVFX from Withers Broadcasting; the deal following the approval of Federal Communications Commission consummated on May 1, 2017. Family Feud, Pawn Stars, Steve and Judge Judy are the syndicated programs hosted by the service. The primetime news-bulletin is produced by WDTV. Fox 10 News at 10 in the flagship newscast, the area’s only 10pm news bulletin. News, weather, sports updates, local scores, closings and live stream of events is available online.
